Poland's first school for the deaf, founded 1817
Instytut Głuchoniemych was founded in 1817 by Father Jakub Falkowski and is Poland's oldest school for deaf pupils. It teaches pupils with sign language as their first language as well as pupils using spoken Polish, from kindergarten to upper secondary, and has sign language interpreters on staff. The historic building on Plac Trzech Krzyży is being modernised, and in the meantime the school is located on ul. Zakroczymska.
