Privacy policy

In short: you can use the map without signing in and without being tracked. If you sign in, we only keep what it takes to give you a profile, your pass and your reviews. You can delete it all yourself.

Who we are

DeafPlaces is run by Andreas Styltsvig in Denmark, who is the data controller. Write to hej@deafplaces.app if you have questions about your data.

Using the map without signing in

We set no advertising or tracking cookies. We count anonymously what people search for and which places they open, so we can make the map better. No user id, IP address or device id is stored, and the counts are deleted after 13 months.

Your browser remembers whether you have seen the intro and which map filters you picked. That stays on your device.

When you sign in

We keep your e-mail and your name from Google, and what you write in your profile: name, home country and sign languages.

We also keep what you do in the app: saved places, reviews and videos, check-ins, points and badges, and places you add. At a check-in we confirm that you are near the place. We only keep the distance, never your location.

Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in. It is used for nothing else.

What others can see

Your name, your reviews and videos and your points on leaderboards are visible to others. Your e-mail is never shown.

Who helps us

Supabase (database and sign-in, servers in Frankfurt), Cloudflare (hosting the website and anonymous visitor statistics without cookies), Resend (sending sign-in e-mails) and Google (when you sign in with Google). Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, which sees your IP address when your browser loads the map. We never sell your data.

Why we may

We process your data to provide the service you asked for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). The anonymous statistics rest on our legitimate interest in improving the map (Art. 6(1)(f)).

How long

We keep your data while you have an account. If you delete your account, your profile, reviews and videos, saved places, check-ins, points and badges are deleted right away. Places you added stay on the map without your name.

Your rights

You can access, correct and delete your data. Delete your account under My profile, or write to us. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (datatilsynet.dk) or the authority in your country.
